Sam was born in Omaha, Nebraska. Growing up, his father passed a love of history to him, and his mother encouraged him to read fantasy novels. After graduating with a Bachelor's in history from the University of Nebraska at Omaha in 2018, he began his writing career with blogs and online magazines. He lives and works in Omaha, where he wrote his debut novel 'A Burnt Offering.'
